Another Day at the River
We’ve had a bit of a lazy one today down by the river, it’s a great spot for a picnic, a good book and a few photos. As I’m not a literary or food critic, I’ll talk about the photos.
Quite similar to the ones I did the other day but it’s good to look different compositions. In the colour photograph the rock in the foreground was quite a bit brighter relative to the darker stream and bank behind so I used a neutral density filter but upside down with the angle set to the line of the rocky foreground, this helped balance the exposure a little. I placed the leaf to add a bit of a focal point on one of the third intersections (think of a noughts and crosses board) to add a bit of interest.
I’ve also posted the black and white image as I liked the tonal range of the flowing water, I dodged the highlights on the rocks a little to make them stand out more and used silver efex for the mono conversion. It was taken at ISO400, 22mm, f/11 for 30 seconds. It’s sometimes easier to take the longer sxposure shots at 30 seconds as this is often the maximum shutter speed before you have to go into bulb mode, then you have to watch the timer to close the shutter as opposed to eating more of your picnic or reading more of your book! Who says I can’t multi-task!
