Just a quick post as I really need to be cracking on with editing my wedding photos! I had some friends over this afternoon with their newborn son for a couple of portrait photos. I’ve not done much in the studio recently …
Read MoreA quick wedding post this afternoon about one of my favourite wedding planner/blogger sites. Boho Weddings and Events is run by Kelly and based in Sheffield. To say she is into her weddings would be a bit of an understatement! She is always tweeting and blogging about anything related to planning a wedding and has a really down to earth, informal style which I love. She features anything cool and quirky connected to weddings and offers great advice to anyone looking into planning their wedding. I’m always checking it out to keep up with trends in the wedding industry but I have been on it a bit more avidly since I am now approaching weddings from a customers point of view as I recently proposed to my long suffering girlfriend during a recent visit to Scotland (previous post).

If you are up that way I really can’t recommend the old school near Kinlochbervie highly enough (www.oldschoolhotel.co.uk). Alan who is the chef and owner there is a greak bloke, takes a keen interest in his guests and the attention to detail at the place was really great.

Read MoreI was out last night on a glorious Yorkshire evening doing a bit of landscape photography. I headed for a field near Woolley, a little village not too far away and spotted this fantastic footpath cutting straight through a field of golden wheat. I had a few hiccups on this outing, my new polariser doesn’t have a front thread so I couldn’t attach my graduated filters, a serious no no for the shot I had planned so I kept my new CPL in the bag. I set up and was pretty happy with my original test shot in terms of composition so I tweaked it a little and put my grads on and it was just a case of waiting for the sun to light up the field. I had envisioned a moody black and white version using a slow shutter to get the sweeping clouds and a little movement in the wheat. However when I got them back I was happy with the standard colour version but I have decided to post both versions and you can make your mind up as to which you prefer. In terms of exposure, the colour version was taken at 16mm, f/16, ISO100, 1/13. I had a hard edged 3 stop ND grad to balance the bright sky and the land.

Read MoreI went out to grab a couple of local landscape photos last night as the sun looked like it was going to light the land quite nicely. There was not much in the way of clouds so I knew it wasn’t going to be a spectacular sunset but I thought I could perhaps get something, plus its nice to just get out and about at that time of the day, unless of course you get attacked by pollen and start sneezing until someone mistake you for the girl from the exorcist! Anyway I diverge.
Read MoreI’m going to do a landscape photography post today as I’ve had a few wedding photography posts recently and feel like a change. I was recently asked to supply some large Black and White landscape photos to a client in London. I do have a landscape photography gallery on my site but not all of my work ends up there so I thought I would have a look through some of the archives at some of my favourite landscapes and see if I could do some black and white conversions, and while I was at it I thought I’d do a blog post about it as well!
The three shots I’m putting up aren’t new unfortunately but the Derwent Pier one is a black and white take on the colour version in the landscape gallery, so I’ll start with that one.
A couple of weeks ago we provided the wedding photography for Rebecca & Colin at the Hey Green Hotel in Marsden near Huddersfield. The wedding was at Linthwaite church which was just down the road from where Rebecca was getting ready so we did some bridal prep shots too. We were greeted with the smell of bacon butties at the brides parent’s, which we were offered but had to decline and get down to the photos, this took some will power believe me! Everyone was jolly and looking forward to the day. Rebecca was beaming and smiling all day, which is always good for the photo’s. Colin hailed from Scotland so he had on his kilt, sporran and Sgian Dubh (I won’t go itno how long that took me to find out how to spell!). Again all these cool little details are great for photos when remembering the day. The couple had also got in a piper to lead them out of the church and play for guests arriving at Hey green which was a nice touch.
Read MoreWe were at the Crab and Lobster at Asenby in North Yorkshire a couple of weeks ago to photograph the wedding of Melissa & Andrew. We did a wedding at the crab and lobster last year and have been wanting to do another ever since, it really is a beautiful location and the food is superb. The gardens have a bit of an ancient Roman feel to them with cool terracing and statues, fantastic for photography. We were lucky with the weather again, a day of glorious sunshine. Melissa and Andrew were another great couple, really bubbly and up for anything in terms of photos, we threw in a couple of cheesy ones here and there but it was all great fun. Plenty of cool stuff at the wedding, they had a 3 tiered pork pie which was pretty awesome, loads of cool vintage china cups on the tables and a BBQ if guests got a bit peckish after the meal! Melissa’s dress fit in really well with the Roman type feel of the gardens and Andrew scrubbed up pretty well too.
