Sandburn Hall Wedding Photographer

Another wedding for us at Sandburn Hall in York a few weeks ago, done quite a few there this season.  We were there to photograph the fabulous wedding of Farraday and Philip.  Loads of nice touches at this wedding.  All the wedding attire looked fantastic, great looking stationary such as the invites, table plan etc.

About the wedding day?
We wanted a traditional wedding, running order, meal etc but nothing religious. Chose Craiglands because of its reputation and beautiful location. Mum and I took over all the planning etc. Chris had nothing really to do with it! He just turned up on the day! We decided to get married Christmas 2011 so we had 9 months to plan our wedding day. Had regular meetings with the wedding coordinator at Craiglands and mum was a huge help as she is used to planning huge events as part of her job. Throughout the whole 9 months I can honestly say nothing went wrong. We were calm, excited and very organised, even on the day itself.
Any theme or colour scheme? Cream and Navy. No theme.
Any particularly special moments or highlights?
I think because we have been together for 21 years everybody was very excited and just so happy that we were finally getting married. The whole day just oozed happiness. The sun was shining, all our close friends and family were just delighted to see us still so happy and in love after all this time.
Favourite photograph of the day?
Oh! how can you ask that!!! all of them!!!! There is no way I could pick one or even five!! When we saw our photographs we both broke down into tears. My parents weeped when they saw them!  The photos just somehow picked up on the atmosphere of the day… Happiness, love, joy, contentment..  Chris has a favourite and I have a few I particularly like but all of the ones we both love just show feelings of love and happiness in our expressions. I have no idea how a lense can capture these feelings but they did.  One which I remember being taken in a ‘milli’ second when I was literally just hanging around, but seems to have really got people talking is the one where I am stood in the doorway of the hotel with arms outstretched with my back to the camera. Its in black and white and my train of the dress is outstretched and somehow the light just seems to look magicaI around me. Its very very beautiful.
Anything you would do differently?
Not a thing. It was absolutely perfect.
Any surprises on the day?
How calm I was!!! How organised!!
Can you give any advice to couples on their day?
Dont drink too much!! Top tip!!! I had a couple of glasses of champagne after the ceremony then half a glass of wine with the meal then I drank tonic the rest of the night. I was just high on happiness!! I remembered everything, stayed in control and woke up hangover free! best ever tip!!
And finally, any suppliers you would recommend?
The greenhouse florist, Idle. She got my taste and personality down to a tee. I don’t know much about flowers but my simply descriptions and sketches to her were recreated to perfection and she was so reasonably priced I thought she had got it wrong!! Richard Daniels swing singer. Amazing addition to our evening reception. This singer was so good I forgot he was there and I thought it was the DJ!!! Really brought the crowd to life and got the dancing started. Also Franklyn our mind reader/table magician. Wow – What an amazing guy!! He entertained our guests while we were having the photos done. Wandered round, got the guests laughing and talking and was just so incredible!! worth every penny.

Beautiful Wedding Photography at Craiglands, North Yorkshire

We were at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley a few weeks ago to photograph the wedding of Leanne and Chris on a beautiful, warm, late summers day. The couple were fantastic, really friendly and laid back as were all the guests, it really was a lovely wedding to photograph. The bride looked absolutely stunning, she just did not take a bad photo, and the groom scrubbed up ok as well! There were loads of kids in the bridal party which is always nice to see, all very well behaved and enjoying the day, none of them asked me if I was the man who served children drinks this time!

Vintage Wedding at Danby Castle, North Yorkshire

We were at Danby Castle in the beautiful North York moors a few weeks ago to photograph the wedding of Lindsay and Matt.  The wedding had a relaxed, vintage inspired theme with loads of lovely little touches from the couple.  Danby Castle was a fantastic backdrop for such a wedding, all nice and informal which we always love.

Beautiful Bride at Hazlewood Castle

We had a lovely time photographing Diane and Paul’s Wedding at Hazlewood Castle near York a few weeks ago.  The weather was glorious (rare with the summer we’ve had!) and everyone was ready to enjoy themselves.  We were not providing photography coverage for very long at this wedding, pretty much from the ceremony to the speeches.  The speeches being before the meal, which I think is a good idea.  So no bridal preparation shots and the first glimpse we got of Diane was coming down the steps with her dad and the bridesmaids and she looked beautiful.

The ceremony was good, the nerves eased as soon as it was over and we all headed outside for a few photographs.  The front of Hazlewood castle is really great for the formals groups, I tend to try and keep these to a minimum if possible so we can concentrate more on the informal shots.  As the sun was shining everyone was happy to be outside.  After everyone had thrown some confetti we took the couple off to grab some photos around the grounds, with the odd break for a drink and a bite to eat.  Paul and Diane were great to photograph, very much in love and easy to get along with, when conditions are like this the photos seem to take themselves!

The couple got back to the guests and had a few drinks before going to sit down for the wedding breakfast.  There was a line up for the guests to say hello and congratulations if they hadn’t got chance to see the couple.  These are always good from a photography point of view as we get a lot of nice shots of all the guests.  The speeches were all good with lots of emotions.  I always enjoy capturing the speeches as we get a bit of an insight into the couples histories, both the groom and the bride’s reactions to some of the best men jokes always come out well, plus they look great converted to black and white.

Congratulations once again from Carol and myself and I should have the DVDs out soon.  I’ll put a gallery up here and on my facebook page, comments always welcome.

Informal, Relaxed Wedding Photography

Informal, Relaxed Wedding Photography

We were over at Scawby, a lovely little village in North Lincolnshire a few weeks back to photograph the beautiful wedding of Nic and Ben.  I usually start these posts with a rundown of the weather, at this wedding it really couldn’t make it’s mind up.  One minute we would have beautiful blue skies and sunshine, then the next it was hail and thunderstorms!  Changeable wasn’t the word.  I had met Ben and Nichola a few weeks prior to the wedding and they mentioned Scawby green which is just outside the church.  It was a really nice little spot with nice trees and a cool old fashioned red telephone box, very photogenic, not that the bride and groom weren’t either!

Black and White Wedding Photography at Sandburn Hall

We were at Sandburn Hall near York a few weeks ago as wedding photographers for the beautiful wedding of Chloe and Stuart. I’ll start by mentioning yes, this is a black and white only gallery, no, I didn’t leave my camera on black and white only by accident all day and of course the couple will be getting both black and white and colour versions of their wedding photographs. I’m doing a monochrome only gallery as I really love them as a way of presenting wedding photos and tend to attract clients who have a similar interest in black and white wedding photographs.

Denton Hall Wedding Photographer

We were at Denton Hall near Ilkley a few weeks ago to photograph the beautiful wedding of Shona and John. To begin with let me say how lovely a couple these two are, really friendly and down to earth, it was an absolute pleasure to be asked to take their wedding photos. Denton Hall is a fantastic location with loads of features both inside and out. They have a really cool spiral staircase and some fantastic black and white tiled floors, great for photographic inspiration.

Newburgh Priory Wedding Photographer

We were at Newburgh Priory in Coxwold in North Yorkshire a few weeks ago providing the wedding photography for the beautiful wedding of Sarah and David.  The couple had exclusive use of Newburgh Priory which was nice.  Newburgh Priory is a fantastic old house with loads of great features, the guests seemed particularly keen on the huge roaring fireplace before the ceremony to get dry from the relentless rain in the morning.  The ceremony was lovely with some nice readings.  We did some quick group shots after the ceremony inside (as it was still raining) but we did manage to get out for a few shots of the newly weds.

Wortley Hall Wedding Photographer

We recently provided the wedding photography for Simon and Gill and their lovely wedding at Wortley Hall near Sheffield.  The couple had gone for a Greek theme, Gill had a Jenny Packam dress which I always think have a little bit of a Greek/Roman twist to them, although I must say that is about the limit of my knowledge of wedding dresses!
