          Black and White Wedding Photographer

Another compilation post today, this time regarding Black and White wedding photography.  Firstly let me start by saying I love black and white photography, not just wedding photography but various other genres, for example landscape photography.  There are many Black and White wedding photographers out there which I drew a lot of inspiration when I was learning the basics, I won’t go into them all here as you might end up booking them for your wedding!  I love the timeless quality the black and whites have, not old fashioned as such just something that will never look dated, or not as dated as some of the sin city inspired colour isolation wedding photos out there.  I also enjoy the vintage style photos which are popular at the moment as they compliment the rusticy , DIY, type weddings which many couples are going for at the moment but I always come back to the black and whites and generally my favourite shot of a wedding will be in black and white (or monochrome).

          Holdsworth House Wedding Photography

We had a fantastic time last week at Holdsworth House near Halifax doing the wedding photography for the beautiful wedding of Donna & Andrew.  They really were a lovely couple and fantastic to photograph.  The wedding was quite an intimate affair with just close friends and family, we really love doing these as we end up feeling like some of the guests and this was no exception.  There were 4 generations attending the wedding, which is always good to see, a couple of the nephews had a good go at stealing the limelight, charging about on the fantastic lawns at Holdsworth House.

          Yorkshire Landscape Photography

I was out last night on a glorious Yorkshire evening doing a bit of landscape photography.  I headed for a field near Woolley, a little village not too far away and spotted this fantastic footpath cutting straight through a field of golden wheat.  I had a few hiccups on this outing, my new polariser doesn’t have a front thread so I couldn’t attach my graduated filters, a serious no no for the shot I had planned so I kept my new CPL in the bag.  I set up and was pretty happy with my original test shot in terms of composition so I tweaked it a little and put my grads on and it was just a case of waiting for the sun to light up the field.  I had envisioned a moody black and white version using a slow shutter to get the sweeping clouds and a little movement in the wheat.  However when I got them back I was happy with the standard colour version but I have decided to post both versions and you can make your mind up as to which you prefer.  In terms of exposure, the colour version was taken at 16mm, f/16, ISO100, 1/13.  I had a hard edged 3 stop ND grad to balance the bright sky and the land.

          Black and White Landscape Photography

I’m going to do a landscape photography post today as I’ve had a few wedding photography posts recently and feel like a change. I was recently asked to supply some large Black and White landscape photos to a client in London. I do have a landscape photography gallery on my site but not all of my work ends up there so I thought I would have a look through some of the archives at some of my favourite landscapes and see if I could do some black and white conversions, and while I was at it I thought I’d do a blog post about it as well!
The three shots I’m putting up aren’t new unfortunately but the Derwent Pier one is a black and white take on the colour version in the landscape gallery, so I’ll start with that one.

          The Humber Bridge

I had to go to a wedding venue yesterday near Hull and I thought I’d try and get a few photos of the Humber Bridge seen as I was over that way. The weather was pretty grim to say the …

          Moody Black and White portraits

I was out in the woods with my niece and nephew at the weekend trying out the new lens (Canon’s 85mm f/1.2L). Arguably canon’s best portrait lens. As I have quite a few winter weddings coming up I was after a really good low light lens so decided to go for this. …

          Lighting in Portrait Photography

          Portrait Photographer Wakefield

A photographer I follow on twitter recently tweeted about a sort of lighting mega resource in a post called 20 Resources that will get you lit. I have only glanced at it but there seems to be a load of great links to anything related to lighting, well worth a look. So with this in mind I thought I would post a shot from a recent portrait photography shoot I did in my studio in Wakefield. We usually use a clean white background to provide the modern high key type look which works really well but I like to try and mix things up from time to time.

          Fine Art Banana

It’s one of those non portrait or wedding photography posts today which I do from time to time, especially when it’s not wedding season, so if you are a bride looking for a wedding photographer this post may not be of great interest, unless you like off camera flash and/or fine art photos …

          Wedding Photogaphy Black and Whites

Seems like a while since my last post, I’ve been changing the site round a little to be more wedding focused, as opposed to photography focused in a bid to get a few more visits from potential brides. I read somewhere that I should refer to myself in the third person more, possibly starting each …
