Photography Tutorial – Off Camera Flash

Finished shot edited in a retro style Off Camera Flash Tutorial

Hi folks, thought I would post a Photography tutorial about using off camera flash, I have got a wedding photography post to do but have been meaning to do this for a while so thought I would get to it. My models for this tutorial were the two Danbos (Big Dan and Little Dan), they are a photogenic couple, not overly talkative but Consummate professionals, they get the job done. This is the finished shot but I’ll post some setup shots and how I got to the finished article, after the jump.

          Yamaha XVS 1300 Midnight Star

          Motorbike Photography

I had quite a few shoots over the weekend so I unwound a little by taking some photos, strange I know! I’ve noticed from some of my web traffic that the motorbike photography gets quite a lot of visitors, not surprisingly looking for the Yamaha XVS 1300 midnight star, it would be handy if they were getting married but I suspect they see the photo and are drawn in expecting a top notch review of the bike and are probably a little disappointed when all they get are a few camera techniques. If you are one of these visitors, no review needed, you should just go and get one of these, I love mine!

          Fine Art Banana

It’s one of those non portrait or wedding photography posts today which I do from time to time, especially when it’s not wedding season, so if you are a bride looking for a wedding photographer this post may not be of great interest, unless you like off camera flash and/or fine art photos …

A ride through the Peak District

I went out with a friend on the bikes today to take some photos, I think he’d been inspired by some of the river shots I did recently and wanted to have a go at them. The day was pretty overcast so we didn’t have hard light coming through the leaves and as …

          Mushroom Lighting Tutorial

It’s been pretty overcast today so not the most exciting in terms of light so today I created my own, in a non divinical sort of way. I’m posting 2 shots, a sort of before and after the addition of some directional light. As it’s autumn the fungi are starting to come out and these …

I’m going to start doing a bit of motorbike photography, this was quite a quick attempt largely due to the freezing conditions outside. The garage wasn’t the tidiest I’ve …

          Skateboarding on Boxing Day

We went to a school yard nearby to test out this insane skate/snow board hybrid present, I wasn’t too keen on breaking a limb but thought I’d take the camera and maybe snap some of the thrills and spills. My sister was directing the off camera flash, hard light coming from …

          1 Strobe, Choose your background

Hi folks, I’ve been playing with my pocket wizards again just experimenting with exposures with one flash off camera and some light coming in from the window. This was quite a quick setup in the living room with no clear backgrounds, I have done a shot to demonstrate what was in …
