Another compilation post today, this time regarding Black and White wedding photography. Firstly let me start by saying I love black and white photography, not just wedding photography but various other genres, for example landscape photography. There are many Black and White wedding photographers out there which I drew a lot of inspiration when I was learning the basics, I won’t go into them all here as you might end up booking them for your wedding! I love the timeless quality the black and whites have, not old fashioned as such just something that will never look dated, or not as dated as some of the sin city inspired colour isolation wedding photos out there. I also enjoy the vintage style photos which are popular at the moment as they compliment the rusticy , DIY, type weddings which many couples are going for at the moment but I always come back to the black and whites and generally my favourite shot of a wedding will be in black and white (or monochrome).

We were at Bagden Hall in Denby Dale (between Wakefield and Huddersfield) at the end of last year for the wedding of Sheelin & Sean. It was a lovely Christmas themed wedding with all the tables named after Santa’s reindeer. Unfortunately instead of crisp clear snow we had endless grey rain! I’m always an advocate of getting the couple outside under the umbrellas if possible for some wedding photographs but it was just torrential, so we stayed inside. Luckily there were plenty of christmas trees and lights about and a lovely log fire so we did a lot of the shots around there.
Read MoreWe were at St Giles church recently near Leeds covering the lovely wedding of Helen and Phil. The church looked great which was fortunate as the rain outside as Helen was arriving could only be described as biblical! So we had to do a few of the groups inside until the rain eased a little. The reception was only a short walk away at the Britannia hotel in Bramhope. As the couple arrived the sun started to shine so we did a few confetti shots and then let the bride and groom get to their guests.

Pretty much the whole month of April has been great weather for weddings, hopefully it will stay dry for the royal wedding tomorrow! There were plenty of lively guests at this wedding and lots of kids running around which is always good to see. Jade and JP had their little daughter Imogen as a flower girl, and a great job she did, took a nice photo too. Both bride and groom were great folk, relaxed all day and really easy to get along with. The speeches were done before the meal which I always think is a good idea, if only so the speech makers can enjoy their meals without worrying about being nervous. The Parsonage was very nice with good grounds for photos. Jade and JP even planted a tree which was nice to see, not often you see a bride carting around a wheel barrow!
Read MoreWe had the pleasure of covering the wedding of Dawn and Alistair a few weeks ago at Bagden Hall in Denby Dale near Huddersfield. I am saying this with increasing regularity but the bride and groom were a pleasure to take photos of, really easy going and up for photos anywhere even though the weather was a bit on the cold side to say the least! Dawn looked fantastic and was a very smiley bride which is always good. I had done a portrait session with Dawn and her little boy at the start of the year so I knew she’d be fine in front of the camera. Alistair soon got into the doting husband role and was happy to provide the on demand kisses that we have to ask for when doing the couple shots. Dawn had brought some snow boots which were a god send when I had them walking about in the snow, they can’t be seen under the dress and are so much better than heels when the ground is a bit dodgy. The couple also had a fireworks display set up for the guests in the evening which, in a word, was awesome. I’d been to some organised displays for Guy Fawkes night a few weeks before but this was so much better. It went on for a good amount of time and the guests really enjoyed it, although they needed a bit of persuading to get out into the cold! Another great wedding to be involved in and we wish them all the best for the future. These are a couple of my favourites. (Some more after the jump)
