Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks Walk Photography
Mar 9th
We did the three peaks walk in the Yorkshire dales at the weekend, which is a 26 mile all day walking affair over 3 of the peaks in the dales, (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) and had some of the best landscapes Yorkshire has to offer. I had seen a similar photography idea that I wanted to try during the walk, it basically involved taking a photo every minute or so for about 12 hours, it got quite tedious after about 15 minutes, especially going up the hills and finding 3 feet of frozen snow on the tops but it was worth it in the end and the weather was pretty stunning too.
I also managed to get a couple of usable landscape photographs at some points that I have used at the start of the video to set the scene, I’ll put these up in a post soon.
Fine Art Trees…In Lepton
Oct 8th
It was a pretty clear this evening so I got out to snap some trees, there were a few whispy clouds to make the sky interesting which was a bonus. This clump of trees are in a small town called Lepton, between Huddersfield and Wakefield and they kind of remind me of the trees on the Maasai Mara, only in Yorkshire. In the black and white photo I was going for a fine art type shot purely because I thought the subject lends itself to that style. Taken at ISO100, 33mm, f/16, 1/8.
In the colour image I used a telephoto as I wanted to include Castle Hill in the background this wouldn’t have worked with a wide angle as the distant castle would be far too small. It’s been a while since I visited the land of the silhouettes but quite liked it as I could didn’t need to worry about graduated filters or anything, handy as I was just packing up! It was taken at ISO100, 70mm, f/16, 1/100. I’ve edited this post and put up a colour panoramic instead, thought it looked a bit better.
Yamaha XVS 1300 Cruiser Motorbike
Jul 14th

A couple of the Yamaha XVS1300 from yesterday, I like to think of it as an automotive work of art that no picture can ever do justice to. Not sure if we got the location right looking back, perhaps an abandoned warehouse would have been better, giving a more gritty feel. Same setup as the previous post with the same problems of no light stands! I’ll have to get some moving shots soon, could be a little tricky as I might have to ride backwards as a pillion passenger snapping as I go!Suzuki Bandit 1250 Streetfighter
Jul 13th

I was out on the bike with a friend today and we decided to stop get a few shots of his new bike. It’s a 1250 Suzuki Bandit for any bike buffs out there, a special edition I’m also informed. We pretty much lit the bike with 2 speedlights on full tilt and I also had a polariser on, this was more to try and reduce the ambient exposure so I could fire at under 1/200 without stopping the aperture down too much. Unfortunately I didn’t take any light stands or modifiers so it was a bit pot luck with the lighting but I think we managed, it although I had to put my VAL (voice activated light stand) ie, my mate, to good use. I processed them in Lightroom and Photoshop with a bit of dodging and burning to bring out the clouds a little.
