For one of our last weddings of 2014 we were at Gravetye Manor to photograph the beautiful wedding of Sarah and Tom. We had been looking forward to this one for quite a while as we had previously photographed Tom’s sister’s wedding which we loved and knew this wedding would be no different!
We arrived at Gravetye Manor to get some shots of Sarah and the bridesmaids getting ready. It was a lovely crisp winters morning with lots of lovely sunshine and everyone was in high spirits. We got a few shots of the horse and carriage when it arrived before we headed off to the church to see Tom. The church was in the lovely little village of West Hoathly with a nice pub across the road for folk to have a drink before heading off to the ceremony. Tom and the best man seemed quite relaxed and it was lovely to see Sarah and her dad come down the aisle. The ceremony was great with a very pleasant South African vicar in charge. There were a few pyrotechnics with the first kiss but after the ceremony and confetti it was back to Gravetye Manor for the wedding reception.
As it was close to the shortest day I was keenly aware that we wouldn’t have much light left so we got straight into a few informal photos of the couple when they arrived. Both Tom and Sarah were very relaxed and an absolute pleasure to take photos of, Sarah looked stunning and held it all together well even as the sun went low and things got a little chilly! We were glad to get in and get a few shots by the log fire.
The wedding was very Christmas themed (as you might suspect a week before Christmas) all the tables were named after Santa’s reindeers which was great to see. A new one for us (and a great idea) was the first dance song sweepstakes, where guests would put their names next to the song they thought would be the couples first dance. We had a bit of inside information on this one so kept checking if anyone had put their name to it, it was a great idea. The couple had lots of personal touches like letters from guests to be put in bottles to be opened at various anniversaries, again a cracking idea, they had certainly put a lot of thought into their wedding day.
Speeches were all good and everyone had thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We stayed to photograph the first dance and then the band kicked off to see the guests out for the rest of the evening. It was a really lovely wedding to photograph and one which we thoroughly enjoyed. It was lovely to see some familiar faces again and say hello and we wish Sarah and Tom all the very best for the future. As always I’ll put a few shots up here and on my Facebook page and I will have the discs in the post ASAP. Congratulations once again folks from Carol and I!
